Family Violence support service SafeChoices has a new way of getting its message out.

This year SafeChoices is sponsoring a player in the Tasmanian Women’s State League. Daria Bannister plays for the Launceston Football Club.

“We’ve proudly sponsored Daria for 2019 TSLW season,” said team coach and player Angela Dickson, “Daria is part of our 2019 leadership group and vice-captain of the club.”

The sponsorship means that there’ll be a SafeChoices banner around the Launceston home ground at Windsor Park, and information available in the clubrooms.

“We want to get our message out to as many people as possible that SafeChoices can help if you are experiencing Family Violence,” said SafeChoices Manager, Jacinta, “and this is a great way to do it, as there are lots of families coming along to games each week.”

Daria is a talented and determined player. She was drafted to the Western Bulldogs in 2018 at pick 19 when she was only 18 years old. After a season-ending injury in the first game, she regrouped and worked tirelessly on her rehab until she returned to the AFLW in Round 6 with North Melbourne where she kicked her first ever AFLW goal.

“Daria has overcome her own setbacks, and she uses her knowledge and experience to mentor young and new players in the team. With AFL Tasmania she runs football clinics for children to help promote a healthy and enjoyable lifestyle. She is a fantastic ambassador for SafeChoices.” Angela said.
