Let’s Talk is an English conversation group that supports recently arrived migrants to learn, practice and improve their English, whilst also increasing their confidence to use these skills in their everyday life. Let’s Talk commenced in May 2018, and has been running successfully ever since with the help of our dedicated group of volunteers.
The program enables participants to form connections and develop a sense of community, while learning English conversation skills to help them integrate into and communicate with others in their local community.
During the program participants learn basic English phrases and use them in conversation with other people in the group. Participants learn in a relaxed environment with other beginners from a variety of different cultural backgrounds.
The benefits for participants of the program include:
Increased social connectedness and inclusion
Enhanced social and life skills to integrate and settle into the Australian community
English language skills to support social interaction within the local community and with service providers, schools and other organisations.
Let’s Talk runs for 8 weeks during each school term on Wednesdays from 10am – 12pm.
Humanitarian entrants and recently arrived migrants can access Let’s Talk within the first five years of their arrival in Australia. Visa category will determine eligibility for support, so please contact us to see if you are eligible.
Let’s Talk is facilitated through SETS which is federally funded through the Department of Social Services (DSS) under CatholicCare Victoria Tasmania (CCVT)
